BENEFITS

There are 7,000 nerve endings in the feet, which are stimulated during a Reflexology treatment. When an area of the foot is sensitive or sore to the touch, it indicates an energy blockage in the part of the body it refers to.

Reflexology will release that energy blockage, thus helping the body to heal itself. It may take several treatments to achieve this result.

It has been found that Reflexology:

- Helps with morning sickness and heartburn;

- Aids relaxation;

- Helps with constipation;

- Helps reduce low back pain;

- Helps with hemorrhoids;

- Helps reduce the length of labour;

- Helps breast milk to come in;

- Helps prepare the body for labour.

CHILDBIRTH DOESN'T HAVE TO HURT

In “Childbirth doesn't have to hurt – Strategies for an easier labour” by Nikki Bradford and Professor Geoffrey Chamberlain, published by Vega 2002, pages 159 to 163 refer to Reflexology.

On page 162 Nikki Bradford states "Of the mothers who had 10 Reflexology sessions, beginning in the middle of their pregnancies, only 2.7% had an epidural (the national average is about 20%).

The first stage of labour, which usually takes between one to two hours, took an average of about 16 minutes".

Trish is a Reflexologist who specialises in Maternity Reflexology. She completed a Pregnancy and Reflexology course with Mauricio Kruchik who is based in Israel and travels the world giving Maternity Reflexology courses. She also holds ITEC Diplomas in Indian Head Massage and Holistic Massage and has Certificates in Hot Stone Massage and Stress Management. She has been practising in Shankill since 2004.

As Trish is a member of the Irish Reflexology Institute, you can claim back part of your Reflexology payment through your health insurance company.

Having had four children herself, Trish is keenly aware of the needs of mums-to-be.  Giving birth to a first child is the most daunting, exciting, awe inspiring and life-changing experience we will ever have.  Reflexology is a wonderful support in pregnancy, helping with morning sickness,
heartburn and constipation.

Many women are postponing starting their family for financial reasons, and can experience difficulty in becoming pregnant. Reflexology will help regulate periods, balance hormones, and bring the body back to homeostasis. It is also a deeply relaxing and nurturing treatment, and has been shown to be beneficial in regulating periods in PCOS clients.
